A dramatic collapse saw Glasshoughton Welfare suffer a heavy defeat after they had led 2-0 away to Albion Sports in the Toolstation NCE Premier League.

They looked set to surprise their hosts when Nathan Perks fired Welfare in front after 20 minutes.

Fellow striker Kingsley Weatherald doubled the lead six minutes later and a return to winning ways looked on the cards.

But the goals only served to fire up Albion and the two-goal advantage only lasted two minutes with Daniel Facey scoring the hosts’ first. Two minutes later it was all square as Brice Tiani netted and Albion went in front on the stroke of half-time with Facey bagging his second.

The second half was one-way traffic as all Welfare’s early promise evaporated and they went on to lose 9-2.

Asif Hussain’s penalty on 53 minutes made it 4-2 and any hopes of a comeback were firmly squashed when Levi Maturine added another goal for the home side four minutes later.

Arran Basi, Tiani and Sam Bradley all added to Albion’s tally before an 89th minute penalty gave Facey his hat-trick and rounded off another day to forget for Welfare.

Glasshoughton face another tough task this Saturday at home to third-placed Cleethorpes Town (3pm).
