Pontefract Collieries kept their hopes of a top four finish alive when they won 4-2 away to Grimsby Borough in Division One of the Toolstation NCE League.

Colls soon had the game under control and were three up by half-time as they climbed back up to fifth place in the table.

Midfielder Chris Kamara gave them the start they were looking for with the opening goal on 10 minutes.

Top scorer Kingsley Wetherald made it two on the half hour before Kamara’s second just before half-time ensured Ponte went in with the lead their play had deserved.

They maybe took their foot off the gas after the break and Grimsby pulled a goal back through Luke Fanthorpe on 65 minutes.

But any hopes the hosts had of an unlikely comeback were killed stone dead 10 minutes later when Aaron Joseph made it 4-1. Kyle Bensley’s subsequent penalty for Grimsby proved no more than a consolation as Ponte had the points in the bag.

Colls have two league games left and host AFC Emley this Saturday (3pm).
