Knottingley Albion under 13s travelled to Manchester to compete in the prestigious North West Champions League and in baking hot weather ran out winners against teams from all over the country.
In the group stages Knottingley beat Laxey, from Isle of Man, 1-0; Madeley, from Gloucester, 2-0; Reddich B 5-0; and drew 0-0 with local rivals Upton to top the table.
They then played some outstanding football in beating Wilmslow 2-0 in the quarter-finals and Northbank, from Cumbria, 3-0 in the semis.
The final against Prestwich was end to end with both keepers in action to keep the game goalless. A penalty shoot-out was needed to decide the outcome with Brad Watson saving one and Knottingley giving the Prestwich goalie no chance.
The winning squad was Brad Watson, Mitch McHugh, Sam Wright, Ben Watts, Zak Wilkinson, Owen Greaves, Josh Powell, Coby Glew, Morgan Armit, Ty Bryer, Jay Sharman, Brogan Foster, Connor Freeman and Brad Redshaw.
All the players were superb, playing seven 15-minute games in searing heat and scoring 13 goals without conceding to become North West Champions.
