Leeds United midfielder Paul Green has been rewarded for his fine start to the season by being included in the Republic of Ireland squad for their match against Wales next week.

Green, Pontefract born but qualifying for Ireland through his gdarndparents, was forced to withdraw from the Republic’s friendly programme at the end of last season due to injury, but will be hoping to be involved in his adopted country’s latest friendly.

The Republic are set to face the Welsh in a friendly on Wednesday, August 14 at the Cardiff City Stadium (kick-off 7.45pm) and the game is live on Sky Sports.

Green has started both of Leeds’ games so far this season and captained the side in their 2-1 first round Capital One Cup tie victory over Chesterfield last night.
