Pontefract Collieries have appointed Pat Monaghan to the new position of assistant secretary.
Pat will assist club secretary Trevor Waddington in the day to day running of the NCE League football club.
The club is delighted at this appointment and look forward to Pat bringing some much needed help to operations at the club. He has also been a friend of the club for a number of years and is currently president of the Pontefract Pirates Disability section.
Pat said: “I have been involved with the local leagues for 45 years as a player (goalkeeper), referee and 25 years in league management, this being my 17th year as a league secretary.
“I was Pontefract Collieries reserve goalkeeper to the great first team keeper John Brown way back in the late 1960s. Some of the great players from the reserve team were Nowak, Loynes, Beaumont, Smith, Hunter, Davis, Currie, Vaughan and me and my twin, Joe Monaghan.
“I am looking forward to the new and existing challenge of assistant secretary to Trevor Waddington and honoured to be working alongside the dedicated team at Colls.”
Pontefract, meanwhile, continued their preparations for the new season with a good display in an unlucky 3-1 defeat to Welsh Premier side Gap Connah’s Quay Nomads.
Colls were the better side for much of the pre-season friendly and could have been more than just one up at half-time had it not been for a superb performance from the visiting keeper. As it was they had to settle for a solitary goal from Liam Radford on 32 minutes.
They were still one up until the last 20 minutes and looking good to cause a upset until a combination of legs getting tired and the Welsh side bringing some guns on from the bench turned the game upside down.
Ryan Edwards equalised with 20 minutes remaining and the Nomads snatched a win with two goals in the last three minutes from Mike Hayes.
Defeat was tough on Colls after they had played so well for so long, but the football they produced augurs well for the NCE campaign ahead.
They host Liversedge in another pre-season game on Saturday (kick-off 3pm).
