Three goals in the last 15 minutes earned Pontefract Collieries a place in the third round of the Toolstation NCE League Cup when they went to Winterton Rangers on Tuesday night.

Premier Division Colls found themselves 2-1 down to their first division opponents before the late burst saw them run out 4-2 winners.

Max Leonard put Ponte ahead in the first half, but Winterton turned it round after the break. Aaron Moxam made it 2-2, however, on 75 minutes then Jack Mawson and Leonard again netted to see Collieries through.

Colls earned a point from their latest game in the Premier Division when they drew 2-2 at Nostell MW last Friday night.

They came from two down to earn a point after falling behind to Lee Turner’s goal on 10 minutes and conceding again when James Kitson netted.

Moxam’s tenth goal of the season gave Ponte a lifeline right on half-time and within two minutes of the start of the second period they were level after forward Liam Radford was on target for his seventh of the campaign.

It was nip and tuck from this point, but with no further goals at either end the two West Yorkshire teams had to settle for a point.

This Saturday Pontefract are back at home, but face a tough task against fifth-placed Cleethorpes Town (kick-off 3pm).

They are also in action next Wednesday away to Liversedge in the rearranged first round West Riding County Cup tie (kick-off 7.45pm).
