Pontefract Collieries are hosting a prestige friendly at home to Welsh Premier side Gap Connah’s Quay Nomads tonight (Friday), kick-off 7.30pm.

The visitors can boast of having former Wrexham, Burnley, Blackpool and Port Vale player Mark McGregor as their director of football and will provide a huge test for Colls’ joint first team managers Duncan Bray and Nick Handley, with several new signings looking for first team places.

The club would like the people of Pontefract to give the Welsh visitors a warm welcome and join the team down at the White Rose Stadium for what will be a game not to be missed. Hospitality will be provided with the refurbished refreshment bar and the club house bar.

Colls will kick-off their NCE Division One season away at Shirebrook Town on Saturday, August 10 (3pm). They then face Worsbrough Bridge Athletic away the following Tuesday (7.45pm) before a first home match against Bottesford Town on Wednesday August 21 (7.45pm).

Pontefract continued their preparations with contrasting pre-season games against local Castleford Sunday League side Ladybalk FC and Boroughbridge.

A 3-1 defeat at Boroughbridge on Saturday gave them food for thought while the midweek romp against Ladybalk saw seven different players on target in a 14-0 win. Tom Agus and Nathan Perks both hit hat-tricks with further goals from Liam Radford (two), Andy Catton (two), Brenton Leister (two), Kingsley Wetherald and Josh Corbett.
