METHLEY ROYALS Rugby League side switched codes to play the first of a hoped for series of annual games against village neighbours Methley United AFC, who have launched an open age side.
The game, on the dual-purpose Savile Park pitch, was played to Association Football rules and proved to be a high-scoring affair. United prevailed 10-7, but not before the Royals had given them a real fright.
Sam Payne scored a hat-trick for the rugby side, whose other goals went to JP Briers, Bart Revell, John Hughes and Lee Starbuck.
Jamie Green netted four times for United, Danny Jackson bagged a brace and Andy Griggs, Aiden Wright, Aiden Hackett and Mitch Thompson scored.
The Royals line-up was: Reece Willshaw, Matty Jackson, Lee Starbuck, Johnny Heaps, Kieran Gledhill, JP Briers, Matty Handforth, Sam Payne, Dave Williams, Bart Revell, John Hughes, Tom Kaye. Subs: Tommy Skerrett and Richard Scott.
