Pontefract Collieries stretched their unbeaten run to eight games in Division One of the Toolstation NCE League with a 3-1 success at home to Grimsby Borough at the White Rose Stadium.
After dropping a point to struggling Appleby Frodingham the previous week when they felt they threw the points away Colls were in no mood for a repeat, although it was not until the last minute that they had the victory sealed.
Ponte started well once again and went ahead after 12 minutes when Tom Agus kept up his recent good scoring record with his fifth goal for the club.
But before the celebrations had died down Grimsby were level with Louis Grant netting within two minutes.
Colls failed to make the most of more opportunities before they went back in front on the half-hour through Rob Oldham.
It stayed 2-1 to half-time and the game remained in the balance after the break. However, after it was Ponte who had let in a late goal against Appleby last week it was they who got one this time as young forward Mark Simpson struck on 90 minutes to ensure they would be collecting three points.
Victory kept Colls in sixth place in the table and they remain five points behind second-placed Shaw Lane Aquaforce and just three behind Bottesford Town in third.
This Saturday Pontefract are back on their travels when they face Teversal (kick-off 3pm). It will be a quick return fixture after Colls beat Teversal 2-0 at the White Rose at the end of October with goals by Oldham and Liam Radford.
Teversal are down in 14th place, but showed they can be dangerous opposition as they drew 2-2 away to Bottesford last Saturday.
