Pontefract Collieries made it back to back victories in the Toolstation NCE Premier Division when they came back from Clipstone with a 2-1 success.
Top scorers Liam Radford and Aaron Moxam were on target as Colls took control early on then held on in the second half to complete a fine win over their hosts, who stand in fourth place. It was Ponte’s seventh win of the campaign and the three points moved them up to 13th.
They were quick out of the blocks and ahead within five minutes as Radford fired home after being set up by Andy Catton’s header,
Eight minutes later Moxam doubled the lead with his 18th goal of the season.
In the second half, Clipstone looked to hit back, but were held at bay by a Colls defence more solid than in recent weeks.
The hosts did finally pull a goal back eight minutes from time through Jahmal Smith, but in a tense finish Ponte held on and almost scored again when Kane Reece was unlucky to see his effort hit the woodwork.
Pontefract will now aim to make it three wins on the spin against higher opponents as they host ninth placed Staveley MW this Saturday (3pm). They are also at home to Cleethorpes Town in the third round of the NCE League Cup next Wednesday (7.45pm).
