Leaders Methley stayed on course for the Pennine League First Division title with their 12th successive league win by beating Allerton Bywater 42-6 on Saturday.

They recorded their 16th victory in all competitions this season by beating local rivals Allerton Bywater who had only 13 players.

Winger Andy Matthews led the way with four tries, including two in the first eight minutes in a blistering spell in which Sam Payne also crossed.

Allerton replied when Craig Oliver’s try was goaled by David Illingworth but Methley led 24-6 at the break courtesy of a trademark long range score by full-back Dave Williams and Matthews’ third touchdown, plus Payne’s third goal.

Matthews grabbed his fourth try within six minutes of the re-start and hooker Chris Woolford crossed shortly afterwards.

The score remained unchanged until the last 10 minutes when centre Jon Paul Briers and scrum-half Andy Speake scored.
