PETER Hibberd is aiming to move a step closer to bringing speedway back to Castleford.
Today (Saturday), Castleford Kings team manager Hibberd has been invited to attend the annual general meeting of the Midland Development League in Coventry.
Hibberd will be asked to present the case for the Kings to be admitted to the league for the 2013 season.
Hibberd was the manager the last time Castleford had a speedway team when it was based at the former Whitwood Greyhound Stadium between June, 1979, and July, 1980.
The club have recently held discussions with Wakefield District Council and its leader Councillor Peter Box to identify a site in the area which would be suitable to stage the sport locally for the first time for 32 years.
Until land is found, the Kings are proposing to the Midland Development League that they share the stadium and facilities at Scunthorpe for staging home meetings.
Arrangements are being made for local Kings supporters to travel by coaches to the home matches in Scunthorpe.
