Larrington Knottingley’s match-winner in low-scoring clash

Featherstone’s poor start in Pontefract League Division Two continued with their third straight defeat on Saturday.

They lost a low scoring game at Knottingley in which 20 wickets fell for just 129 runs. David Hiorns (4-29) and Mark Swales (3-35) bowled out Knottingley for only 98 but Featherstone’s batsmen fared even worse.

Captain Danny Robinson (11) was the only player who reached double figures as they were skittled for 31 by Craig Larrington (7-18) and James Pugh (3-8).

Rob Sperrin and Alex Clemo led promoted Glasshoughton to their first win of the season against Hatfield.

Sperrin smashed 13 fours in a sparkling 103 and Clemo hit seven fours and two sixes in a rapid 53 as the Castleford team overhauled Hatfield’s 240-7 with 10 balls to spare.

Glasshoughton’s Elliott Spears claimed 3-39 and Craig Bryant 3-52.

Danny Riley struck a second successive century and Karl Hewitt hit an unbeaten 75 in Sandal’s nine-wicket victory against Allerton Bywater.

Allerton’s scoring was led by Mohammed Tokir (80) and number 10 batsman Joshua Greenwood who raced to an unbeaten 69 off 56 deliveries.

Ryan Lethbridge (94no) and Gary Proudley (45) shone for Brook-Walton as they beat Rothwell by five wickets. Rothwell’s defeat was hard on Andy Humphreys whose 89 took his tally to 250 runs in the first three games.

David Jaques (43) and Richard Cooper (33) were Crofton’s best players in a seven-wicket loss at Barnby Dun.

Division One pacesetters Fairburn are four points clear of closest rivals Old Sharlston and South Kirkby.

Jake Abdy struck 46 and his brother Guy bagged 3-30 as Fairburn retained top spot with a three-wicket win against Monk Bretton.

Champions South Kirkby eased to a seven-wicket win against Nostell who were toppled for 71 by former Townville player Richie Bresnan (7-37) and Dave Rollin (3-21).

Frickley were bowled out for 128, replying to Old Sharlston’s 191-6 that featured half centuries by Tom Craig and Ryan Kelsall .

Connor Hyde (44), Chris Wathen (39), Dale Longfield (38), Connor Fisher (36), Liam Hyde (35) and Joe Seddon (29) guided Ackworth to 248-6 against Streethouse who managed only 183-8 in reply, despite Mohammed Bashir’s unbeaten 62.

All-rounder Jack Hart was in top form as Ferrybridge Power Station beat Crigglestone in Division Four.

Hart (52), Marc Lumb (38) and Richard Lumb (33) top-scored as Ferrybridge posted 169-9. Hart (4-11), Scott Taylor (3-29) and Andrew Adams (2-22) toppled Crigglestone for 123 in reply.

An excellent 62 by youngster Bailey Mathews was in vain for Ackworth who were bowled out for 132 in a nine-wicket defeat at Fenwick.

Hundhill Hall maintained their Division Three title challenge by beating Thurnscoe by four wickets.

Peter Ferguson (3-12), Sam Malyan (3-46) and Simon Jewitt (2-28) sent Thurnscoe collapsing from 52-0 to 146 all out. Steven Rigby (48), Tom Malyan (35no) and Ben Dunn-Birch (25) led the way as Hundhill knocked off the runs in 29.1 overs.

Lewis Longstaff (45) and Mathew Daniel (45no) guided Whitley Bridge to a seven-wicket win against Darton who were restricted to 130-9 by Mathew Draper (4-28), Daniel (2-33) and Colin Banks (2-20).

Hensall beat Streethouse by four wickets. Streethouse recovered from 13-4 to finish on 180-9 thanks to Jonathan Nickerson (48), David Crowther (38), and Yunas Josat (32no). Hensall’s Andrew Lund had figures of 6-35.

James Calvert (49no), Matthew Haley (34no) and Lund (32) led Hensall’s successful reply, despite Craig Tennant’s 3-36.

Matthew Faulkner (4-34) and Scott Murray (3-45) were the architects of Thorpe Audlin’s win against Garforth.

In Division Five, Old Sharlston trounced Featherstone by 177 runs.

Dave Keating took 5-14 as Featherstone were routed for 52, chasing Sharlston’s 229-5 that featured a 159-run opening partnership between Sachin Karan (87) and skipper Chris Weaver (59).

Ian Raynor (77), Andrew Atkinson (4-43), Simon Abdy (3-53) and Lee Dobson (2-7) were Fairburn’s match-winners against Frickley.

Glasshoughton’s batting let them down as they fell for 75 in a six-wicket loss against Division Six rivals Wakefield Thornes.

An opening 75-run stand between Tony Watson (46) and Jed Wilkinson (35) was in vain for Hundhill Hall in a 10-wicket defeat at West Bretton.

Glyn Draper (28no), Chris Charlton (26), Mathew Green (3-17), Martin Hudson (3-26) and Andy Brown (3-45) were Whitley Bridge’s best performers in a 25-run defeat against Hemsworth.

In Division Seven, Allerton Bywater’s Matthew Thompson claimed 6-23 and Tom Delmont 3-35 in a 58-run victory against Stanley Falcon.

Chasing Brodsworth Main’s 180-8, Knottingley were all out for 100, despite John Goddard’s unbeaten 44.

Richard Hayes (3-31) was Knottingley’s best bowler.

Robert Brain (73) steered Ferrybridge to 145 at Hooton Pagnell but it wasn’t enough to deny the home side a five wicket win.

Hooton’s Sam Angel claimed 4-42 and hit 34 and Andrew Stones finished iunbeaten on 41.

Thorpe Audlin’s 32-run defeat against Askern was tough on Ricky Hindmarch (4-22 and 46).
