Ledsham are off the mark after promotion

Ledsham were one of the few teams to be able to complete their Wetherby League game on Saturday and were delighted to do so as they enjoyed their first victory since promotion to Division Two.

A six-wicket win over Crossgates was set up by a fine effort in the field as they dismissed their opponents for 82.

Johnny Smales (4-11), Olly Baron (3-16), Simeon Bambrook (2-19) and Andrew Kelly (1-34) were the wicket takers before batsmen Andrew Kelly (33 not out) and Christopher Hall (16 not out) brought Ledsham home after they lost four early wickets in their reply.

Great Preston had their Division One game against Sicklinghall abandoned without a ball being bowled.

They are away to Scarcroft this Saturday and begin their bid for Fred Fleetwood Cup glory when away to Division Two side Saxton on Sunday. Ledsham face a tough task in their first round cup tie at first division Bilton in Ainsty.

Townville started their Premiership game at Birstall in the All Rounder Central Yorkshire League, but after they got into a good position the rain came to abandon the match.

Birstall stood on 79-6 after 37 overs of their innings before there was no further play. They had started well enough with an opening stand of 32 before Jack Hughes (4-15), Richie Bresnan (1-31) and Conor Harvey (1-10) appeared to have them in trouble.

Methley’s Premiership game against Carlton was abandoned without a ball being bowled as was the 2nd XI Premiership local derby between Townville A and Methley A.

This Saturday sees Townville at home to Scholes and Methley at home to Birstall in the league with Townville seconds away to Birstall A and Methley seconds at Altofts A.

The Jack Hampshire Trophy gets un der way on Sunday with first round matches for Townville at home to Westwood Park and Methley away to Mirfield PC in the only all-Premiership tie.
