Methley continued their winning run by comfortably beating Ossett at Little Church Lane on Saturday.

A seven-wicket victory lifted Methley to the top of the Central Yorkshire League’s Premiership.

They are three points clear of former pacesetters Scholes who suffered their first league defeat against Altofts.

Batting first, Ossett were quickly in deep trouble after losing their first three wickerts with just four runs on the scoreboard.

John Sadler (34) led a fightback but Ossett were always up against it and were eventually all out for 127.

Methley’s Sohail Raz claimed 5-39, Marc almsley took 2-20 and his twin brother Ed 2-20.

The home side overhauled the modest target in 32.4 overs.

Chris Holliday led the way by hammerng an unbeaten 60 off 46 deliveries. Luke Patel (23) and Richard Foster (20) were the other main scorers.

Townville’s hopes of retaining the league championship suffered a setback with a 42-run home defeat against Mirfield Parish Cavalers.

Townville skipper Ritchie Bresnan (4-29) and Jonathan Booth (2-30) toppled Cavaliers for 154 which included a half-century by Michael Padgett.

Despite opener Matt Bremner’s 31, Townville’s repy never got going and they were dismissed for 112, with Muhammad Shanawaz claiming 4-28 and Padgett 4-39.

Townville visit Aire-Wharfe League Beckwithshaw in the Black Sheep Yorkshire Champions Trophy first round on Sunday. The winners travel to Elsecar in the semi-finals.

Methley and Townville both lost in the second-team Premiership.

Jake McCaffery (31), Richard Smart (23) and Joshua Sullivan (2-32) were Methley’s best performeers in a six-wicket defeat at Ossett.

Methley managed only 112--8 in their allotted 50 overs and it took Ossett only 28.4 overs to knock off the runs.

Steve Walton (27) and Martin Duck (24) top-scored for Townville as they were bowled out for 121 in an eight-wicket defeat at Mirfield PC.
