Methley remain on target to become the first team to win the Priestley Cup as well as the Central Yorkshire League’s Jack Hampshire Trophy after pulling off a shock semi-final victory over current Bradford Premier Division leaders Farsley on Sunday.

In a low scoring contest, a great bowling performance paved the way to the final, although Championship One team Methley had to overcome a few nervy moments before they got over the line for a two-wicket win.

Farsley were soon reduced to 25-4 and were skittled out for only 89. Only Ryan Cooper (12), Greg Pickles (17) and James Logan (11) reached double figures while all four bowlers used by Methley enjoyed success. Marcus Walmsley took 4-19, Muhammad Akhlaq 3-29, Matthew Lumb 2-25 and Eddie Walmsley 1-15.

Methley looked to be cruising when 63-2 in their reply with Akhlaq scoring 20, Marcus Walmsley 19 and Barney Gibson 12. But four wickets went down for nine runs and two more batsmen followed back to the dressing room before they got home in the 20th over.

The many times Jack Hampshire Trophy winners will now meet New Farnley in the Priestley Cup final on Sunday, August 27 (1pm).
