EIGHT-year-old martial artist Abigail Bregman (pictured) added to her medal collection by winning bronze in the Kata category at the English Karate Federation National Kyu Grade Championships.

It was step up in competition for Abigail who took part in a category with over 40 other competitors from all over the United Kingdom.

North Featherstone Junior and Infant School pupil Abigail, who trains at the Sengoku Karate Club based at the school, narrowly missed out on a place in the final with a split decision of three votes to two.

The competition bought together several hundred students from different associations who are registered with the main karate federation for the UK and it took several months of intense training to get Abigail to the standard required to enter.

She is already looking forward to her next competition which will be an even bigger step up for her as well as training hard for her black belt which she is hoping to take in the next few months.

Anyone wishing to try karate will be welcomed at North Featherstone Junior and Infant School on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 5.30pm. Contact Nicki Harrison on 07538861438 for further details.
