WAKEFIELD Athletics Development Group, which provides support to Pontefract Athletics Club and Wakefield Harriers, has received a grant of £1,500 from the Keepmoat Fund managed by Community Foundation for Wakefield District.

The grant will be used to help the clubs with their facility hire charges and athletics coaching in local schools.

Cyril Jones, chairman of Wakefield Athletics Development Group, said the funding was vital to the development of the clubs and should help to improve school to club links.

Anyone wishing to join Pontefract Athletics Club can contact Mr Jones on 01977 702986.

Meanwhile, in a West Yorkshire Track and Field League fixture at Wakefield, Lewis Schofield of Pontefract Athletics Club finished second in the under 13 boys high jump with a personal best performance of 1.33 metres.
