Cambridge leads way for joint leaders

YMCA B stayed joint top of Castleford, Pontefract and District Table Tennis League by beating YMCA C 6-4.

YMCA C’s man of the match Mark Cambridge beat all his three opponents, Connor Morris over three sets, Bailey Pye over four sets and Daniel Ferguson by only two points in the fifth.

Chris Inman gave him good support by narrowly beating Connor in the fifth set by two points and Daniel Ferguson in the fifth by the same margin, but he lost to Bailey in the fourth set by a margin of just five points overall.

Carl Keegan lost all his games, over three to Connor and Bailey and over four sets to Daniel.

To seal the win Mark and Chris beat Bailey and Daniel in the doubles in four sets.

The other joint leaders YMCA A defeated Knottingley A 10-0.

YMCA A captain Peter Hugill performed well, beating Alan Yip and Paul Meason convincingly over three sets each, but he met resistance from Dennis Shaw whom he beat over five sets, in the latter by nine points.

Rob Connell also won all his games, beating Alan over four sets Dennis over three and Paul over four sets.

John Senior beat Dennis over three sets and Paul over four, but just scraped a win over Alan in the fifth by only two points.

In the doubles, Rob and John beat Alan and Dennis over three sets.

YMCA D beat C Station B 6-4 with team captain and man of the match Gordon Cooper winning all his three games.

Gordon beat Keith Lumb and Dave Tennant over three sets and Rob White over four.

Gordon’s wife Margaret Cooper gave good support by beating Rob and Dave over four sets, but lost to Keith over three.

YMCA D’s Elana McClements lost over three to Keith, over four to Rob and narrowly over five to Dave by a margin of only three points overall.

To save the day, Gordon and Margaret achieved an easy victory in the doubles by defeating Rob and Dave convincingly over three sets.
