Castleford RUFC Girls proved that they are the best in Yorkshire when both their under 13s and under 15s teams won their respective Yorkshire RFU Cup competitions at Barnsley RUFC.
The under 15s match was a thrilling encounter with some skilful rugby played at pace with a verve and endeavour.
The best two sides in Yorkshire, Castleford RUFC Girls and West Park Leeds, met in the final and traded scores in a pulsating encounter of 10-a-side rugby.
However, drawing on the strength of the team’s work ethic built over the course of this year’s campaign, Castleford proved why they have been such a force to be reckoned with. With a fantastic haul of six tries, Emma Hardy led the way, but the result was built on a solid foundation of support from the whole team, who gradually out-thought, out-fought and out-scored the opposition.
Courtney Pursglove, with one try and six conversions, and Abi Burton, with two tries and one conversion, completed the scoring as Cas won 59-43.
In the under 13s competition the Cas girls emerged from the pool by beating Baildon, Old Brodleians, Selby and Dinnington to meet Old Crossleyans in the final.
A combination of speed, power-play and guile meant that Castleford were able to deservedly add the Yorkshire Cup to their silverware collection.
