CHRISTINE McCarthy and Mick Flaherty of Pontefract Athletics Club continued their record breaking form on the club’s day out at the Lytham St Annes Carnival 5K on Sunday.
McCarthy (pictured) finished fourth in the women’s race and first woman over 50, setting a new club record for women over 50 with an outstanding time of 20 minutes, 41 seconds.
Flaherty finished 11th overall out of 125. He continued his rich vein of form, setting club records in the men’s over 50 and over 45 age groups with 18 minutes, 54 seconds. Nick Kennett had his first outing since his excellent London Marathon in April and produced a good run to finish in exactly 20 minutes.
Will Carter crossed the line in 23-30 and Cyril Jones produced his best run of the season with 24-02.
Some of the young athletes from the Pontefract club competed in the one-mile fun run.
Oliver Scogings and Cameron Howes, both aged 10, came in 13th in 6-59 and 19th in 7-36 respectively out of 94 finishers.
In Wednesday’s Track and Field Club Championships at Thornes Park Stadium, Wakefield, Natalie Carr set her fourth club record of the year when she cleared 4.80 metres in the long jump. Her performance was a club record for junior ladies (under 20) and senior ladies as well as under 17s.
