BRIAN Copley was the winner when Fryston Angling Club visited York’s Langwith Lakes for the second successive weekend.

The previous week’s atrocious weather at the same venue did little to dampen the spirits of 22 anglers for Sunday’s match on the 29-peg Anniers Lake.

However, Saturday evening’s frost put paid to big catches.

The order of the day was to feed little and pick off the occasional fish one at a time and Copley got that tactic just right.

Drawing peg two and fishing mostly at 14 metres to the island he presented a half worm on the hook at just ten inches deep to take 24lb 8oz of mainly carp for first place.

Dean Barratt had to work hard for a second place catch of 19lb 2oz from peg 24.

James Burke put 17lb 4oz on the scales from peg 19 to take third spot.

Section winners were M Beardsmore and R Clement with 16lb 14oz and 15lb 2oz respectively. P Mountain won the silver peg draw.

Saturday’s open match on Fox pond at Pollington’s Viking Fishery was won by Knottingley’s Garth Sykes with 28lb 12oz.

Second was Phil Jennings (24lb 8oz) and third Richard Thornton (23lb 10z).

Ackworth AC’s club match on Hawk pond on Saturday was won by S Morgan with 37lb 2oz.

Second was K Carter (22lb 15oz), third I Howson (20lb 15oz) and fourth P Jenkinson (20lb 12oz).
