TOWNVILLE Recreation and Sports Club are staging a prestigious darts tournament on Saturday.
They will host one of the early rounds of a year-long competition organised by Bradford Darts Promotions.
BDP tournaments are open competitions played throughout the year at selected venues in the West Yorkshire area.
All darts players are invited to compete from newcomers to professional players. Youth and lady players are also welcomed. Registration for Saturday’s tournament at Townville club on Poplar Avenue is at 11.30am and the action gets underway at 12.30pm.
Bradford Darts Promotions hold around 25 events throughout the year at various West Yorkshire pubs and clubs, culminating in a grand final in December.
The number of players who compete at each tournament range from around 100 to upto 170, playing on eight match boards and two practise boards.
As long as there are no county matches or major tournaments being played on the same weekend, players of the calibre of Scott Waites and Martin Atkins could turn up to play.
Last year, Townville Club, Glasshoughton Club and Fryston Miners Welfare were three local venues that staged BDP tournaments. However, this year BDP have decided to reduce 25 venues to just five, which will include Townville.
The other four venues are in the Leeds/Bradford/Keighley area. Townville will also stage BDP tournaments on April 6, June 29, November 9 and December 7.
