SIXTEEN-year-old Pontefract girl Emma Grayson was the overall winner in the Mirror dinghy inland sailing championship at Northampton Sailing Club last weekend.
It is the first of three major events that Emma, who recently left Pontefract Kings High School, will compete in this year.
The competition was tough with the 2009 world Champion Andy Smith and current national champion Rory MacKenzie competing.
In testing conditions Emma (pictured) won two races and was second in another race to finish first overall.
Emma has been sailing since she was eight years old at Beaver Sailing Club, Goole, and has become one of the best Mirror sailors for her age in the country.
Her dedication to her sport is a credit to her and last weekend’s win was reward for all the arduous training she does throughout the year.
Emma is an ‘Asda athlete’ for a second year, associated with the Pontefract store. She is grateful to Asda, Lulham-Robinson Sails and Bump and Scratches at Featherstone for their support.
