Featherstone couple reach bowls final

FEATHERSTONE bowlers Joe and Sheila Ciplinski reached the final of the Warner Leisure Hotels Champions of Champions indoor bowls tournament held over three days at Lakeside Coastal Village on Hayling Island, Hampshire.

Joe, from Featherstone Indoor Bowling Club, and wife Sheila teamed up with 86-year-old George Lester (Harwick and District IBC) and Cliff Adams (Risbygate IBC).

They were presented with a £1,000 runners up cheque by world singles champion and England captain Andy Thomson.

The Ciplinskis went down to a battling 12-3 defeat against a Maidenhead Desborough IBC family.

After sailing through the quarter finals., the Ciplinskis showed their skill by beating Kent opponents in the semi-finals.

Winners from bowls breaks held at Warner Leisure Hotel’s four indoor bowls centres took part in the finals competition which carried a £6,000 prize fund.

There were competitors from clubs as far afield as Blackpool and Devon.

“We exceeded our expectations and produced some good results in getting to the final” said Joe Ciplinski.

“It was a great three days and the Champion of Champions gives club bowlers the rare opportunity to play against others from around the country, and to perform in front of a large crowd.”

Qualification for next years finals is underway with regular open fours competitions being held from October 2012 to April 2013 at the four bowls centres.
