Emily Plimmer of Pontefract Athletics Club recorded her first victory in the West Yorkshire Cross Country League when she headed home a field of 73 competitors in the under 11 girls age group in Sunday’s second race of the season at West Park Playing Fields in Leeds.

It was also the first ever victory in a West Yorkshire Cross Country League race by an athlete from Pontefract Athletics Club.

Emily had finished second in the first race of the season two weeks earlier at Wakefield to give a clear indication that she is one of the best cross country runners in her age group in this area.

Faye Banks was also in outstanding form, finishing 11th out of 110 runners in the senior women’s race and Reilley Blanckensee was 25th out of 74 in the under 11 boys race.

In Sunday’s South Yorkshire indoor open meeting at the English Institute of Sport in Sheffield, Isabelle Stones finished second out of 63 competitors in the under 13 girls long jump, setting a club record of 4.26 metres.

Isabelle was also fifth in the shot putt with 6.03 metres.

Matthew Tam-McMillan finished fifth in the under 13 boys long jump with 4.20 metres.

He also came sixth in the 60 metres in 9.02 seconds and sixth in the 200 metres in 30.80 seconds.

Abigail Clegg finished sixth in the under 13 girls 800 metres in two minutes 43.08 seconds.

In the Bridlington half marathon, Andrew Masterman finished 14th out of 532 in one hour, 23 minutes, 29 seconds.

Scott Daly came 27th in 1-28-17. Angela Hannon was fifth in the women’s race in 1-33-52 with Christine McCarthy eighth in 1-38-23.
