Knottingley RUFC’s forwards were again in commanding form in Saturday’s 39-23 home victory over Old Brodleians in Yorkshire One.
The final score flattered Brods after they scored a late converted try.
Craig Field (pictured) led the way for Knottingley by grabbing four tries.
Knottingley quickly took control and an early penalty miss did not dampen their spirits.
They went ahead when full-back Paul Rockett’s kick was chased by Jamie Milton. It led to a penalty that Mick Piper converted.
Brods levelled with a penalty but the visitors soon fell behind again when Piper’s kick downfield paved the way for in-form Perry Morrison to send in Field for a try that Piper goaled.
Knottingley stretched their lead when, from a line-out, the pack’s outstanding mauling saw them drive over. Field was again the benefactor and Piper added the conversion to make it 17-3.
Brods cut the gap to 11 points with a second penalty before half-time but Knottingley’s dominance continued in the second period.
They scored one of their best tries this season when superb play by Field, Michael Ash and Rockett saw Field cross for a try that Piper goaled.
Knottingley clinched their third successive win with two more tries.
MOM Field bagged his fourth touchdown after the pack again showed their mauling skills and Simon Chippendale scored a converted try.
