Glasshoughton pair retain trophy by beating clubmates in final

GLASSHOUGHTON duo Stuart Thompson and Rob Lloyd won Castleford and District Crown Green Bowling Association’s cancer pairs tournament for the second successive year at Ferrybridge BC on Sunday.

They beat fellow club mates Mark Brain and Alan Box 21-8 in the final after trailing 5-1 early on.

Thompson and Lloyd recovered from their slow start to lead 13-5.

After retrieving the jack, Brain and Box cut the deficit to 15 -8 but they failed to score again.

In the semi-finals, Thompson and Lloyd beat father and son Mick and Darryl Harrap 21-11 while Brain and Box defeated husband and wife George and Diane Bradbury 21-14.

Glasshoughton won the Birkill Cup for the fourth consecutive year when they beat Allerton Bywater 174-129 in Mondays final at Ferrybridge BC. The results (Glasshoughton names first) were:
