Youngsters from Pontefract Athletics Club were in excellent form in the recent indoor athletics meeting at Wakefield.

Cameron Howes set an under 13 boys club record in the 50 metres hurdles with a time of 9.8 seconds.

Cameron also recorded personal bests in the 50 metres with 8.0 seconds and in the long jump with 3.92 metres.

Kye Evans set a club record in the under 15 boys 50 metres hurdles with 8.8 seconds.

He also recorded a personal best in the long jump with 4.68 metres and clocked a swift 7.0 seconds in the 50 metres.

Isabelle Stones, aged only nine, produced an outstanding leap of 3.49 metres in the under 11 girls long jump.

She also clocked 8.7 seconds in the 50 metres.

Abigail Clegg had a good run in the under 11 girls 50 metres, crossing the line in 8.4 seconds, and she recorded 2.92 metres in the long jump.

Amy Brain produced a personal best of 3.69 metres in the under 13 girls long jump and backed this up with a solid 8.4 seconds in the 50 metres.

Catherine Whitworth also improved her personal best in the under 13 girls long jump with 3.63 metres and she clocked 8.6 seconds in the 50 metres.

Cara Middleton was another under 13 girl from the Pontefract club to enhance her best in the long jump with a leap of 3.43 metres and Macy Wynn was just two centimetres short of her best with a jump of 3.25 metres.

Will Carter clocked 9.4 seconds in the under 17 men’s 50 metres hurdles.

He also did a creditable 7.1 seconds in the 50 metres and 5.17 metres in the long jump.

In the under 17 ladies 50 metres, Sophie Gilbert clocked 7.7 seconds.

In last Sunday’s Norton nine miles road race, Pontefract’s Scott Daly warmed up for next month’s Virgin London Marathon with an excellent performance.

Daley finished 38th out of 518 runners in 56 minutes, 15 seconds.

David Kidd and Terry Minett both ran well to finish in 61-17 and 67-20 respectively.
