Hugill in top form for pacesetters YMCA A

YMCA A retained top spot in Castleford, Pontefract and District Table Tennis League Division One by beating YMCA C 7-3 and C Station A 9-1.

YMCA A’s Peter Hugill won all his three games for the fourth successive match and Rob Connell and Gordon Cooper each won two.

YMCA C’s Daniel Ferguson beat Connell and Paul Morris defeated Cooper over five. Nigel Brook failed to score for the first time this season. YMCA C won the doubles.

Against C Station A, YMCA’s Hugill and Connell each won three games each and Ian Instone won two but was beaten by Keith Lumb over five.

Lumb played well against Hugill before losing by four points in the fifth set.

For C Station Rob White and Andrew Adams failed to score and they also lost the doubles to Hugill and Connell.

C Station A , fielding only two players, lost 9-1 to YMCA B, for whom John Keegan and Mark Cambridge each won three games.

YMCA B’s Carl Keegan lost to Richard Lumb who was beaten by Cambridge by two points in the fifth.

C Station’s Rob White went close to winning before losing to Carl Keegan in five.

John Keegan and Cambfridge beat White and Lumb in the doubles.

In Division Two, Knottingley B beat Knottingley C 10-0.

Knottingley C’s Connor Howson took a rubber from Neil Cooper and Doug Martin did the same against Marcus Hookham but Doug’s father Dave Martin did not have the same success, losing all his games over three.

Knottingley B’s Bob McNaught won his three games without dropping a set. He also won the doubles with Cooper over four.

C Station B were beaten 6-4 by Hemsworth, despite Richard Lumb winning all his three games convincingly.

C Station’s Joe Angell won one game but lost two.

Sam Angell failed to win his games but managed one rubber against one of his opponents.

Hemsworth beat Knottingley C 10-0, but one of their players dropped sets both to Kevin Howson and son Connor and another dropped two sets to Kev Howson before winning the game in the fifth. Dave Martin was unsuccessful in his games.
