Knottingley’s SYD Ringside Boxing Club got its first Yorkshire champion in three years in Sheffield last weekend.
Twelve year old Kurt Jackson, of Pontefract, won his toughest fight to date by beating Bradford-based boxer Bilal Ali from Cleckheaton in the final.
In a close first round, Jackson weathered early pressure and then caught his opponent with clean sharp punches.
Ali was on the attack at the start of the next round but Jackson kept his composure and landed some lovely punches.
Jackson won the final round with crisp clean punches and he lifted the title on a unanimous points decision.
Jackson will now be aiming to win the national title.
He has a walk-over in the next round when he was due to face a Midlands boxer.
He will now box the champion of Tyne and Wear in the following round.
