Lloyd wins thrilling final

ROB Lloyd (pictured) won Castleford and District Crown Green Bowling Association’s YMCA Gents individual title by defeating last year’s winner and Glasshoughton clubmate David Thomas 21-19 in the final at Queens Park BC, on Sunday.

Castleford’s Lyn Dye won the ladies competition, beating Castleford and District Festival winner Amanda Hagen (Ossett Flying Horse) 21-17 in the final.

Both the ladies and the gents final were close run with excellent bowling from all four contestants.

The association are grateful to YMCA for their continued sponsorship of both events.

Yorkshire county junior reserve player Darryl Harrap retained his Castleford and District Under 18 title at Allerton Bywater.

Ten juniors aged 10 to 18 competed in the tournament.

Fifteen-year-old Glasshoughton bowler Darryl defeated 16-year-old Charlotte Holmes of Garforth Rec 21-14 in the final.

Darryl overcame 18-year-old Yorkshire junior player Ellis Owen 21-18 in the semi-finals in a re-run of last season’s final.

Charlotte beat the 2010 title winner Josh Bennett 21-16 in the other semi-final.

The tournament featured a high standard of bowls from all those involved.

Pontefract C and Queens Park B meet in the association’s Incentive Shield final at Glasshoughton BC on next Monday, August 20 (6pm start).

Premier Division leaders Pontefract pipped Hemsworth 105-103 in the Castleford and District Veterans Bowling Association.

Pontefract are 105 points clear of second-placed Glasshoughton A who have a game in hand.
