LOCAL athlete Lucy Holmes (pictured) represented the North Of England team in the Malta International Competition in Malta.
The 19-year-old former Pontefract New College student (pictured) won her specialist event the shot putt with a throw of 11.55 metres.
She also competed in the discus, finishing second with a throw of 27.49 metres and helped the team out by throwing the javelin, again finishing second with a throw of 24 metres.
Last weekend Hull University student Lucy competed in the British University and College Championships at the Olympic Stadium in London. The event was used as a test event for the Olympics and incorportated the official opening of the stadium on Saturday night.
Lucy’s shot putt qualification round was held on Friday, where she quailfied for the final which was held the next day.
In the final, she finished in eighth position out of 36 competitors, throwing 11.44 metres. It was a great result for her first year in the championships.
In this weekend’s Yorkshire County Championships Lucy will compete for the first time in the senior women’s age group.
