MARTIN Beardsmore was the winner when Fryston Angling club made its first trip of the season to Triangs Fishery, Thorne, on Sunday to fish the 47-peg Mallard pond.

With all the water allocated to the 17 strong turn out, there was plenty of room to put good catches together but unfortunatley the fishing was as poor as it gets for this time of the year.

Seven anglers had nothing worth bothering the scales man with.

Beardsmore needed just 13lb 9oz to secure top spot. Dave Lumb was second with 12lbs and Shaun Lupton third with just 6lb 2oz.

The section winners were Brian Copley and Gareth Gill with 4lbs and and 4lb 6oz respectively.

Paul Heath won the silver peg draw.

Ackworth Angling Club’s match on Deer pond at Pollington’s Viking Fishery on Saturday was won by D Richmond with 66lb 4oz.

Second was S Morgan (49lb 6oz), third K Carter (46lb 13oz) and fourth P Morris (43lb 7oz).

Saturday’s open match on Hawk pond was won by A Penny (69lb 2oz).

Second was M Moore (60lb 5oz) third F Williamson (52lb 15oz), fourth T Bullass (42lb 3 oz) and fifth L Tones (36lb).
