Man of the match Paul Meason was outstanding for Knottingley A in a 5-5 draw against YMCA C in Castleford, Pontefract and District Table Tennis League.

Meason completed a clean sweep of victories over creditable opponents. He beat Paul Morris over four sets, each one going with the minimum of two points advantage.

It took him five sets to beat Paul’s son Connor Morris, each set being won alternatively by either player.

He defeated Nigel Brook over four sets in a topsy turvy game and went on to win the doubles with Alan Yip, beating Nigel and Connor over five sets.

Paul Morris beat Alan Yip over five sets and Tim Condon over three.

Connor emulated his dad, beating Alan over five sets but by only two points in the fifth, and Tim over five by a margin of five points in the fifth.

Nigel lost to Alan over three sets but beat Tim over three.

YMCA A defeated C Station A 6-4.

Team captain Peter Hugill completed his tenth clean sweep of the season, winning all his three games against C Station A in straight sets.

For C Station, the honours went to father and son Keith and Richard Lumb.

Both of them won two games, beating Alan Hanson and John Senior.

Richard beat Alan over four sets, narrowly in the latter and John more easily but again in the fourth.

Keith beat Alan in the fifth set and John in the fourth.

Richard Fry was unable to match his team mates but gave a good show against Alan, losing in the fourth, and against John also in the fourth by the minimum of margins.

Peter and John went on to win the doubles against both Richards over three sets.

This win could prove crucial and enable YMCA A to take the winner’s podium.

YMCA D and YMCA B drew 5-5 in a very close encounter that put YMCA B in second spot in the league.

Gordon Cooper, for YMCA D, lost to Chris Inman over four sets, but went on to beat Mark Cambridge over five sets by two points and Carl Keegan easily over three.

YMCA D’s Debbie Wanbon lost over three to Chris, but beat Mark over three and Carl over four, having lost the first set. She won the next three by only losing a total of seven points overall.

Ian Instone beat Carl over three, Mark over five by the minimum margin and lost to Chris in the fifth after the last three sets were won by two points only. Gordon and Debbie lost the doubles very closely over five to Chris and Mark.

Knottingley B beat C Station B 6-4 despite Keith Lumb, achieving a clean sweep over his opponents.

Keith beating Neil Cooper, Bob McNaught and Dave Cooper all over four sets in his best performance to date .

In contrast Dave Tennant lost all his games. He took a set off Neil and Bob, but lost over three to Dave.

Rob White beat Neil narrowly over four, lost to Bob over five in a close competition and lost to Dave over three.

Dave, in achieving a win in the doubles with Neil, won three games overall.
