YMCA A have a four-point lead in Castleford, Pontefracrt and District Table Tennis League after beating YMCA C 8-2.

Steve Morris was YMCA A’s man of the match. He beat all his opponents - Nigel Brook, Paul Dykes and Daniel Ferguson - convincingly over three sets.

Rob Connell defeated Brook and Dykes over three sets and Peter Hugill overcame Brook over five sets and Dykes over three but Connell and Hugill both lost to Ferguson, borrowed for the night from YMCA E. Connell and Hugill won the doubles.

Second-placed YMCA E defeated Knottingley B 9-1.

Daniel Ferguson was again in top form, beating all his opponents, Alan Yip, Dennis Shaw and Tim Condon.

YMCA E captain Bailey Pye also won all his three games. Nigel Brook, brought in as a reserve from the C team, also played his part in YMCA’ E’s victory.

Third-placed YMCA B eased to a 10-0 win against clubmates YMCA D but the final score was not a true reflection of the match.

Chris Inman beat Gordon Cooper and Ian Instone over four sets and Elana McClements over three.

Mark Cambridge, making only his second appearance, beat Cooper and Instone over four close sets and McClements over three sets.

YMCA B captain John Keegan beat Cooper over three but found resistance in Ian over four sets before defeating Elana easily over three.

Cambridge and Keegan struggled in the doubles before eventually winning in the final of five sets.

C Station B collected their first point of the season from a 5-5 draw against Knottingley C.

C Station’s Mark Lumb lost to the Cooper brothers Neil and Dave but he beat Bob McNaught. Rob White won narrowly over four sets against Neil Cooper and McNaught but lost to Dave Cooper. Richard Fry beat Neil Cooper and McNaught over three but lost to Dave Cooper in a marathon five setter, three of which went to deuce. The Cooper brothers won the doubles.
