NATALIE Carr of Pontefract Athletics Club continued to show a good turn of speed in the West Yorkshire Track and Field League meeting at Cleckheaton.
In the under 17 ladies 100 metres she finished a close up third in 13.63 seconds. In the high jump she finished seconds in 1.30 metres.
In the senior men’s 1,500 metres, David Kidd finished fifth in 5:08.17. In the under 17 men’s long jump, Will Carter recorded a personal best of 4.94 metres and in the under 11 boys age group, Cameron Howes clocked 11.96 seconds in the 75 metres with Oliver Scogings finishing in 12.36.
In the under 13 girls 800 metres, Amy Brain improved her personal best by five seconds, crossing the line in a very creditable 2-53-65. Maria Schofield cleared 3.36 metres in the under 13 girls long jump.
In the under 11 girls 600 metres, Megan Bashforth finished in 2-18-26, closely followed by Abigail Clegg, who clocked 2-23-86 in her first appearance for the club.
In the Doncaster Town Centre 5K Road Race, Scott Daly finished 36th in the veteran’s race in 18 minutes, 37 seconds. Michael Flaherty came in 40th in 18-51, setting club records in the men’s over 50 and over 45 age groups.
In the third of a series of three track and field competitions at Pontefract Kings School, Kye Evans clinched victory in the under 15 boys shot putt with an excellent throw of 8.15 metres.
Kye was also first in the 100 metres sprint and second in the long jump, which gave him first place overall in the series.
Faye Burnley also had an excellent shot putt of 7.45 metres in the under 13 girls age group, but was just one point behind Maria Schofield, the overall winner of the under 13 girls series.
Other overall series winners were - Under 11 boys: Cameron Howes. Under 11 girls: Emily Plimmer. Under 13 boys: Dominic Sanderson. Under 15 girls: Lois Whitaker. Under 17 men: Will Carter. Under 17 ladies: Fern Burnley.
On Thursday, the Pontefract club held the third of a series of three races in Pontefract Park over a distance of 5K.
Scott Daly was the winner of the race in 19 minutes 34 seconds with Michael Flaherty finishing second in 19-50.
Scott’s victory made him the overall winner of the three-race series.
Jordan Black was the first finisher in the ladies 5K in 24-32.
Faye Banks was the overall winner of the three-race series despite not competing in the last race.
Dominic Sanderson won the junior boys (under 13) 2K race in six minutes, 52 seconds, making him the overall winner of the three-race series and Amy Brain had an excellent run to win the junior girls (under 13) 2K race in 7-02 to clinch victory in the series.
