New recruit makes his mark for YMCA B

YMCA C recorded an 8-2 victory at Knottingley A in the Castleford, Pontefract and District Table Tennis League.

However, the match was much closer than the final score indicates.

Five games went to five sets, only one of which was won by Knottingley.

Knottingley’s Alan Yip lost in ther fifth against Paul Morris. He went on to beat Nigel Brook over three and lost to junior player Bailey Pye over four. Dennis Shaw also lost to Bailey over four, but went five games with Paul, losing by two points in the fifth, and five with Nigel, winning by two points.

Knottingley’s Tim Condon, was unlucky to lose all his games. He was beaten by Nigel over five sets, losing by two points in the fifth, and by Paul and Bailey in the fourth.

For the B team, new recruited Phil Cawser won all his three games beating Chris Inman over four sets and Mark Cambridge by the same margin and Carl Keegan convincingly over three sets.

Paul Sykes lost to Mark over four and by the closest of margins to Chris over five by 13-11 in the fifth, but he beat Carl over four by a seven point margin easily in the last set.

Phil and Paul conceded a point in the doubles, losing to Mark and Chris in the fifth set.

Knottingley B achieved their best result so far by beating C Station B 10-0.

Marcus Hookham, in his first game of the season, recorded wins over Joe Angel and Robert White over three sets and Dave Tennant over five. Bob Mc Naught beat Robert over five, Joe over four and Dave over three sets. Dave Cooper won his three games convincingly.

C Station A lost 8-2 to YMCA B. Keith Lumb and son Richard both beat Carl Keegan over four and five respectively, but lost to Mark Cambridge and Chris Inman over three sets each.

Andrew Adams lost over three to Carl, but managed one set against Mark and Chris, losing to them over four.

YMCA A defeated C Station A 10-0. Keith and Richard Lumb and Rob White were all soundly beaten.

Keith took Rob Connell and Alan Hanson to four sets, but did not manage a set against Peter Hugill.

C Station B lost 7-3 toYMCA B. Richard Lumb, Rob White and Dave Tennant each took a game from Elana McClements, borrowed from the D team. Elana, however, played well, taking a set from both Richard and David, in only her second appearance in the league.

Alan Hanson and Peter Hugill won all their matches convincingly.
