Pontefract athlete Jasmine wins bronze medal

Jasmine Bate of Pontefract Athletics Club won the bronze medal in last weekend’s under 13 girls Yorkshire Track Triathlon at Cudworth with a total of 1,344 points.

The triathlon consisted of an 80 metres sprint plus long jump and shot putt events.

Jasmine clocked 11.97 seconds in the 80 metres and she achieved a personal best in the shot putt with 8.41 metres.

Her best performance came in the long jump, where she established a club record of 4.51 metres, which is an AAA of England grade one standard.

Will Carter was also in excellent form at the championships, finishing fourth in the under 20 men’s decathlon.

Will ended the two gruelling days of competition with a club record of 4,446 points for the decathlon.

His 10 events included club records of 9.93 metres in the shot putt and 37.97 metres in the javelin. He also produced personal best performances in the long jump with 5.86 metres and in the high jump with 1.59 metres.

Faye Lightowler was the winner of the women’s race in last Saturday’s Pontefract Park Run, finishing eighth overall out of 207 and setting a club record for the 5K distance for women over 35 with a time of 18 minutes 59 seconds.
