Pontefract boxer Sean ‘Short Fuse’ Hughes aims to bid a winning farewell to his local supporters in a contest at the John Charles Centre for Sport, Hunslet, on Saturday, March 16.

Southpaw Hughes takes on Newcastle’s David Lake in what will almost certainly be his last appearance locally as the ‘home’ fighter.

Hughes, whose 11-year career has seen him battle it out for two British titles, a Commonwealth championship, two English titles and the IBC World Super Bantamweight crown, will use the contest to say thank you to his loyal supporters over the years.

He also hopes the fight will be a springboard for him to have another shot at a major title later in the year.

Hughes is sponsored by the SYD Club, Kellingley. He has also been using the club to prepare him for the fight in addition to his usual training base in Rothwell under trainer Michael Marsden.

Tickets are priced at £25 each and are available from Sean directly on Twitter @shortfuse82 or on the Sean ‘Short fuse’ Hughes facebook page.
