The National Club Squash Championship finals take place at Nottingham this weekend.

Pontefract teams have reached the three major finals - men’s, women’s and under 19 mixed.

Pontefract’s women’s team have a record second to none in the competition and have gone on to represent England in the European Club Championships successfully six times.

Current holders, they will field an impressive team in Nottingham, every player having represented their country at some stage, with two current senior internationals. The team is Emma Beddoes, Deon Saffery, Kirsty McPhee, Katie Smith and Sarah Bowles.

The men’s team will be from Adam Taylor, Alex Hodgetts, Taminder Gata-Aura, Sam Wileman, Jack Cooper and Tom Bamford.

Because of a clash with a major individual event in Hull, the under 19 mixed will be played at a later date.

The team will from Cooper, Bamford, Dominic Pegg, Elliott Ridge, Megan Kaye and Ellen Cooper.

The Hull Junior Open takes place this weekend and Ridge, England under 13 champion Sam Todd and other Pontefract juniors are likely to make a major impression.

Two of the club’s girl players have been making a big impression in other sports.

Jessica Beachill represented England last weekend in the mounted games and Eve Perrin was player of the match for Yorkshire at cricket.

The English under 11 championships are in Nottingham on June 7 and Ben Beachill and Layla Johnson are expected to confirm their standing among the best players in their age group in the country.
