Pontefract golfer Malcolm McDermott is one step away from a dream six-night, four-star, expenses-paid trip to the Algarve where he will compete for a prestigious national amateur title.

Malcolm, of Pontefract and District Golf Club, competes in the regional final of the HowDidiDo National Matchplay Championship at the Macdonald Portal Hotel Golf and Spa, in Tarporley, Cheshire, tomorrow (Tuesday), with the goal of qualifying for the grand final in the Algarve in February.

Should he qualify, he would enjoy complimentary return flights to Faro, six-nights’ accommodation at the four-star Monte da Quinta Club, on the Quinta do Lago estate, and five days’ golf on the renowned South and Laranjal courses, with the prestigious HowDidiDo National Matchplay title up for grabs.

Four competitions culminate at the grand final, sponsored this year by both Monte da Quinta Club and Quinta do Lago.

There are singles, pairs, mixed pairs and senior pairs, with a total of 32 golfers, from across the UK, fighting it out for the titles.

HowDidiDo’s database now holds in excess of 21 million rounds of golf along with the handicaps, results and scores of more than 1,300,000 UK golf club members. It is now arguably the largest and most up-to-date database of golfers in Europe.
