PONTEFRACT and District Golf Club’s Simon Coumbe has won the Leeds and District Union of Golf Clubs’ Amateur Championship for the third time.

In the 36-hole final at Selby GC, he won 2 and 1 on the 34th hole against Wakefield’s Scot Douglas, the grandson of Pontefract club president Mac Douglas.

Simon, who also lifted the trophy in 2005 and 2009, is a well respected golfer throughout the Union. He has developed his talents at Pontefract after joining the club as a junior 20 years ago.

Coaching facilities at Pontefract have always been of a high standard and the club’s current professional Ian Marshall is qualified to the highest accreditation available.

Anyone interested in joining the club should contact manager John Heald on 01977-792241 or e-mail manager@pdgc.co.uk
