Pontefract Squash Club players figure prominently in the seedings for the English Junior Squash Championships that take place in Winchester from today (Friday) until Sunday.

Sam Todd is seeded two and Eliot Ridge is seeded four at boys under 15.

Ben Sockett (under 13 boys ) and and Ellen Cooper (under 15 girls) are both 5/8 seeds.

Emma Campion (under 15 girls), Megan Kaye (under 17 girls), Jack Cooper (under 19 boys) and Tom Bamford (under 19 boys) are all seeded 9/16.

Pontefract’s James Willstrop, playing the World Series in Richmond, Virginia, failed to reach the semi final stage after a promising beginning.

He beat Tarik Momen 2-0, then lost 12-10 in the third to Ramy Ashour in a match which could have gone either way and which would have clinched his place in the semi finals.

Needing a win in his final group match against Mohammed el Shorbagy, Willstrop lost 11-9, 11-7.

He returns to England for the Canary Wharf Classic next week, a championship he has won four times and which he won last year.

He is seeded two this time with a prospective final meeting with world number one Nick Matthew.
