CHRISTINE McCarthy of Pontefract Athletics Club recorded another national standard performance in Sunday’s New York City marathon.
The 51-year-old (pictured), who finished fifth in the 2010 British rankings for the marathon for women over 50 with her three hours, 13 minutes, 21 seconds in Berlin, was in excellent form in the tougher New York event.
In the first half of the race she looked to be on schedule to beat her time in Berlin as she went through 10K in 44 minutes 10 seconds, 10 miles in 1-11-41 and reached half way in 1-35-05.
Despite losing the momentum slightly in the last six miles, Christine still finished in an outstanding time of three hours, 20 minutes, giving her an age graded result of 81.47 per cent which is classed as a national standard on the World Association of Veteran Athletes standards.
Faye Banks of Pontefract Athletics Club also completed the New York City marathon.
It was a remarkable performance by Faye as she completed the race in four hours, two minutes 47 seconds, less than five months after having a baby.
