Pontefract Squash Club’s James Willstrop is through to the last eight in the Allam British Open in Hull.

He is one of five English players in this year’s quarter finals along with Alison Waters, Nick Matthew, Laura Massaro and Sarah Kippax.

Willstrop saw off Egyptian Omar Mosaad 3-1 last night in the final match of the evening session and attributed the English success in the tournament to the work of the National Governing Body behind the scenes.

“I’m very proud to be part of English squash at the moment, what Laura and Nick have achieved is a true testament to England Squash and Racketball and the team we have behind us,” said Willstrop.

“I’m here to win, so I have to hold my own both mentally and physically. This is the biggest event next to the World Championships.”

Number five seed Willstrop now takes on number three seed Ramy Ashour (Egypt) in the quarterfinals this evening (Friday). The match is scheduled to start at 8.30pm.
