Pontefract win national title for 12th time

Pontefract Squash Club’s women’s team won the National Club Championship for the 12th time last weekend.

They beat Kenilworth 4-1 in the final at Hallamshire, Sheffield.

Sarah Bowles, Katie Smith, Orla Noom and Deon Saffery all won comfortably. England international Emma Beddoes, who was leading the team, lost 3-1 to the in-form Sarah Jane Perry.

Pontefract lost in the final of the men’s competition at Hallamshire.

Pontefract’s young team beat holders Nottingham 3-2 in the semi finals with wins from Sam Wileman, Alex Hodgetts and Taminder Gata-Aura. However, Pontefract lost to a very powerful Colet’s side 5-0 in the final.

Pontefract have also qualified for the finals of the under 19 mixed championship which will be played at a later date.
