WHITWOOD Golf Club’s annual presentation evening marked the end of another successful year at the club.
There were more than 30 individual competitions available for members and most were fiercely contested.
John Smith won four separate competitions and Jason Blenkin won four individual tournaments and one pairs event.
More than 20 men and six women won at least one competition as honours were shared across the year.
Award winners included Dave Downes (most improved player), Brian Moss (clubman of the year), Phil Cotton (player of the year) and Bev Flockton who won an unprecedented eight ladies’ competitions.
A variety of team competitions were also well supported.
At 8am on Boxing Day, 40 players teed off for a Texas Scramble, with players of all abilities attempting to get the best team scores, despite high winds.
The day was marked by the club’s first hole in one of the year by Mark Best who was delighted to help his team into a leading position.
Teams that represented the club in local league competitions were congratulated at the presentation evening.
The rabbits team came a commendable second in their competition and for the first time a team from Whitwood won the Festival Trophy, a competition between Wakefield district golf clubs.
