KNOTTINGLEY’S SYD Ringside Boxing Club host their first show this year at Kellingley Social Club this Friday (February 8).

Seven Ringside boxers will compete.

Ten-year-old Josh Whittaker, from Castleford, will take part in his third skills contest against Bradford’s Liam Steel.

SYD’s Kurt Jackson will compete in his fourth contest against Balil Ali from Cleckheaton. Kurt is looking for his third win.

Kinsley’s Sam Allen takes part in his seventh fight when he meets Tariq Amin from Bradford.

Eggborough’s fights Brandon Hendry from Leeds.

Fifteen-year-old Liam Whittaker - Josh’s elder brother - will make his debut for SYD Ringside.

Knottingley’s Sam McLean, two times Yorkshire champion, faces his stiffest task to date against five times Yorkshire champion Louis Claridge from Hull. It will be McLean’s 35th fight for SYD Ringside.

Topping the bill is Knottingley’s 17-year-old Popi Burton who takes on Autumn Goodwin from Derby.

Popi avenged an earlier defeat against two-times national champion Goodwin when she beat her in the national championship final in December to capture her second national title.

Popi has won 10 of her last 12 fights. She won a silver medal in the European Championship in Sweden, losing in the final to Finland’s champion.

Doors open at 7pm on Friday. Admission is £10 on the door.

There will be around 16 fights on the bill and 100 tickets have already been sold.

SYD Ringside have thanked Glen Charles of Magsons Construction, Knottingley, for sponsoring their new boxing strip.
