Featherstone snooker player Joe Roberts pulled off a major upset by beating four times world champion John Higgins in a tournament in Latvia.

Nineteen-year-old Joe, who plays for Pontefract Cue Club, defeated Higgins in a Riga Open European tour match.

After reaching the last 64 of the tournament, Joe beat Australian Heath Williams four frames to one with a break of 112 in the final frame.

It earned Joe a match against Higgins.

Higgins won the first frame but Joe levelled and then won a close third frame to go 2-1 up.

Higgins squared matters again but Joe then took a 3-2 lead and also won the next frame to seal a stunning 4-2 victory.

Joe went out of the tournament when he lost in the next round to Oliver Lines.

Joe will visit Germany for the next event on the European tour.
